You will need this stuff to make one.

Image

1.Leather about 1/8 " thick. You can choose what ever leather you like. I recommend something with some stiffness to it.

2. A nice big needle for sewing leather.

3.An awl

4. Something to mark your stitches. About 7 stitches an inch is good

5. Sturdy thread. I used b-50 dacron bowstring material.

6. Some glue. Barge contact cement is the best. Elmers will work.

I think that's it. If I forgot anything,I will let you know.

Thank you, Bill. Questions I have are: 1) What's the best way to draw your pattern? and 2) How much larger does the pattern need to be to make a snug fit?

I'm not done yet. It takes a while to do all the pictures and the writing. :)

Lay your knife on the leather.Fold the leather over the knife to make sure you have enough to hold the knife, and make sure to allow for the welt.

To find the size of the welt, lay your knife on the leather you will you use.and trace it out. Cut out the welt. This is where you want a nice piece of stiff leather. It protects the stitches, and gives the the sheath some rigidity. It also keeps the knife from cutting through the sheath.

This is when you decide how high you want the sheath to come up on the handle of the knife. I like it to come up about 2/3 rds of the way,but it's your sheath, you can make it how you like. The front side, the side facing out will need to be trimmed away. The backside is left on for the loop. my sheath is a left handed one,so the dotted line will make the loop. Do the opposite for a righty.

Cut down along the solid line, then across the other solid line. Now fold the leather over the knife and you will see the sheath taking shape.

This is what your loop should look like.

Here it is marked for stitching. This is where the marking tool is handy. This marked for 5 stitches per inch. If you don't have the tool, just estimate your stitches.

Here is the sheath folded over with the loop in the back, and now it needs to all be sewn together.

There is no way you could have possibly believed that I would know what that is. I'll keep my eyes posted as I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm finding this forum to be extremely informative. I for one am glad it was added.
